9600GT recalled, 9800X2 delayed

Its not as if any games (apart from Crysis) actually need a anything more than a 8800... Now that the PC games industry has slowed with only a few big releases a year, maybe graphics cards dont need to be refreshed so much.

I think this year we should be seeing plenty more games with graphics on the level of Crysis, I know it wont be long untill the 8800's are grinding to a halt in a lot of games.

The point is NV is milking the 8800 Series for all its worth, Resting on their

laurels and totally doing my nut in!

Funny how nVidia "delay" a product when a release date when never really set in stone, and **** poor journalists like the Inquirer start throwing terms like "grim", "woeful" and "losing streak" around.

nVidia are taking their time because the 8 series is not dead yet - the GT and 512 GTS are proof of this. Crysis is the only game that really puts pressure on any system at the moment, and nVidia are not likely to develop an entirely new card and rush it out the door just for one game now are they? Couple this with the fact that there is no real competition, or more specifically any threat from AMD at the moment and it's easy to understand why nVidia are dragging their feet.

The 9800 GX2 will be faster than the 3870X2 since it is effectivly 2 GTS, it will cost more, and people whine about the dual PCB nonsense; but it will sell because people want the best. Simple as.

This cycle we are going through with video cards is nothing new, and I'm always mildly amused when people are surprised by events like this.

I don't like the stalling by Nvidia. In order to keep the PC market alive it HAS to really push the boundaries with graphics and effects, otherwise more people will just buy the consoles as there will be no graphical reason to get a PC.

That's why I prefer ATI as a company. They push out new hardware (and drivers) where Nvidia just want the slight edge all the time. I know the 8800 was different as it had a big lead but it's slowed down Nvidia to a crawl. All that time that AMD/ATI had to rectify the 2900 flaws and Nvidia still can't get a card out to perform against the X2 3870.

They(Nvidia) had 7 months before the R600 was even out, then ATI fixed it and released the 3800 with the die shrink and a better fan and THEN brought out a dual GPU on one card that took the crown. Just shows you who bends over backwards for their customers. I know it's all about money on both sides of the camp but ATI seem to have the customer a lot more in mind than Nvidia has and this is from well before the 8800 series.

I hope ATI come out with another card soon that places Nvidia under a bit of stress that makes them do some work. Dual PCB is a pitiful and pathetic attempt to compete and then you have two underclocked GTS's .

sometimes its like groundhog day in here but slightly different, the same people who were saying "ZOMG ATI Delay" a few weeks ago now consider an NV delay " taking their time because the 8 series is not dead yet", and the same people who stated the ATI delay a few weeks ago were "taking their time to perfect a product to claim back the crown" and now "ZOMG NV Delay"

all we need now is Andy Mcdowell and Bill Murray and a small ground dwelling rodent (where is Cyber Mav these days BTW ?)

you cant win in the world of graphics. you make something bigger, faster, and suddenly its too big or too hot or too power hungry. so you refine it, and make it smaller, than its too slow.

...the competition are seriously behind, so you delay your next gen know that you would only be pushing yourself out of your own game and turn your efforts instead to refining your current lineup and really getting that next gen card nailed down....and now you are accused of stalling, resting on your laurels, extracting the urine, having production problems ect.

Nvidia are playing a clever game and i certainly cant blame them. but lets at least wait for the competition and the software to catch up. crysis notwithstanding, there's really bugger all to phase these cards, even after the ludicrously long reign of the 8800gtx's.

one of the biggest complaints in the world of graphics is the power draw of these devices going ever skywards. to a few people, that doesnt matter at all and of course, so it shouldnt matter to anybody else, at least according to them.... me personally, while i have no problem with my gtx, i certainly feel that a graphics card should not be drawing 55-60% of the entire wattage that my pc requires. that DOES need to be addressed before things get worse.

I'm not sure what you are basing this on, ATI were the worst for delaying releases last year (2900 XT anyone?); and saying the nVidia "still" can't get a card out to outperform the 3870X2 is just plain stupid considering the X2 has been out like what, a month? Are you saying you want nVidia to develop an entirely new card capable of beating the X2 and get it out of the door in less than a month? You're living in a dream world.

I seriously don't understand everyone suddenly ragging on the 8 series, I know pushing technology is important, but you have to be realistic. Why would nVidia put extra time and money into developing an entirely new card when they can take their time and just produce perfectly capable refreshes of existing technology? No one bitches when Intel and AMD do this with processors, so why bitch when ATI and nVidia do it with GPU's?

And finally, hostility towards a dual-PCB card as opposed to a dual-GPU single-PCB solution really baffles me. Sure, it's a slightly more ugly solution, but if it performs well and they get the drivers and cooling right, who the hell cares? Who honestly bases their purchases on whether it's dual or single PCB? Nobody. It's all about performance when you are an enthusiast, and that's who the 9800GX2 is aimed at.

I dont think this card will be a significant improvement over the X2, simply because the X2 wasnt a massive improvement over the Ultra.

This will be aimed at the enthusiast market, who will be happy to spend mega bucks for a 5% increase in fps. I dont really see whats wrong with that to be honest, plus nobodys even seen any proper benchmarks yet either.

What about 06?
