I have an A8N-E NForce4 motherboard which works with a 2400Pro but not with a 9600GT. The PSU is an OCZ 500W. I know the graphics card works and I know the motherboard works. Can anyone suggest why they might not work together?

Well, although it's a PCI-E 1.0a mobo, the card shouldn't have problems. I have the same chipset and a Radeon 3870 (PCI-E 2) works fine.

Are you sure it's a PCI-E 1.0a motherboard? I've found no mention of it anywhere!

MikeTimbers: I assume you've tried reseating it a few times and cleaning the contacts? Does the 9600GT work in another setup? It may require more force to seat it correctly than other cards.

If it works in other motherboards it could well be the BIOS settings, try a Cmos reset or changing a few BIOS settings relating to the PCI-E slot.

Are you overclocking, if so it might pay to check the PCI-E clock, as some cards are fusser than others.

Hmm, that will mean getting the 2400Pro back out of SWMBO's machine for long enough to do it which might be tricky. I switched her PSU out to check that with the card and then broke her bootup and only got it all sorted because I got up at 5am this morning to fix it all.

Not having much luck at the moment with this stuff.

I have because this could be the motherboard or the graphics card. I don't know which and I know that there are different skills in the two fora.
