Recently upgraded to a 7950 Boost IceQ.

My CPU is a 965BE @ 4Ghz. I've just started monitoring the CPU usage in game.
BF3 @ 1650@1050 everything ultra. Getting approx 55fps.

GPU=99% usage, CPU average usage @ 65-70%. I expected the CPU usage to be 100%. Am i missing something?

Just in case you weren't aware the boost bios may overvolt from anywhere between 1.18v to 1.25v. If you don't increase the tdp power limit then the card might throttle after a duration of playing a game.

I had read about that. Havn't addressed it yet though. You just bump up the power limit in MSI afterburner?

In single player the CPU is practically not used. Here, look at this.

Also, without sounding like a dick here... The Phenom 2 is pretty poo. I mean, it was released to compete with Intel Yorkfield quads and didn't even really win then.

I'd say you'll struggle in multi player.

Yeah, the build is showing its age. I think it'll be a FX8320 by 2014, maybe sooner if i get into multi and struggle on CPU

At that resolution, with that card, it'll play alright. I've played it on worse hardware fine too, obviously reduced eye candy but mostly high settings

The Phenom II's are not all that bad still...

Will hold up against a Bulldozer chip clock for clock and even serve you a little better in games. At 4ghz I wouldn't expect to much of bottleneck from it in all but the CPU intensive games, online multiplayer games and MMO types which is where it might let your 7950 down...

Again though, still not a bad chip!

It'll hold up against a Bulldozer chip on 2 cores. Give a game that supports it 8 cores and it will decimate the Phenom 2.

Battlefield 3 will use as many cores as you have, so the more the merrier.

phenoms are okay upto about a 6950/79/7850 then youll need a newer cpu.

i guarentee you the cpu is holding that gpu back.
