965P-DS3 power error on overclock even though i've not touched power options in BIOS!

Hi all,

My kit:

Gigabyte 965-DS3
E4300 C2D (1.8Ghz)
ATI4850
2 x 160Gb HDD in RAID (stripe)
Geil 4Gb RAM (PC2-6400C4 800Mhz)
DVD-RAM drive
Antec NSK6500 Super Midi Tower Case - 430W PSU

I'm trying to get a modest overclock out of this kit (which should be possible) - but when I try even a relatively modest overclock (i.e. to 2.1Ghz) when i boot I get a continuous series of short beeps - which the mobo manual tells me is a "power error". Thing is, I've not touched any of the voltages - all I've done is manual overclock, stick PCIE at 100, and kept RAM below "auto" frequency (800). If I set everything back to "standard" I can boot no problem (although I have to clear CMOS first to get back to BIOS!)

Anyone know why I'm getting power error?!

Thanks,
Dez

Two or four sticks of memory? If four then you'll likely have to up the MCH voltage to atleast +0.1v to boost it for running 4 sticks.

It's 4 actually (good guess!) - so I'll up that voltage and see what happens. The PC does run "at stock" with MCH at normal levels though ... but i'll give this a go and report back. Thanks :D

Boards are usually fine running 4 sticks at stock (usually drops to 667mhz 5-5-5-15 at stock).

Be sure to set the correct voltage for the memory (probably 2.0v or 2.1v).

Sorry to jump this topic, but i have an intermitent error with 4 sticks of ram, which takes me to 8 gig, my board can support 8 gig, but sometimes it blue screens on boot up, sometimes it doesn't, would increasing the voltage a fraction possibly help with my problem?

what brand are them? maybe u have 1 crap stick. u could try upping the voltage

Add +.1 to MCH and checked voltages on memory (added +0.2 to get to GEIL's recommended voltage). Overclocked from 1.8 to 2.2 no problem - so now to get cracking on getting that higher. I guess with my memory/CPU if I can get to 2.8 on a 9x multiplier, with 2.5 memory multiplier that gets me an overclock of 1Ghz and memory running at stated frequency (800Mhz!). Wish me luck :D

Thanks for your help!
