hey guys,

today i returned the GPU for a refund, now I'm on the hunt for a new, literally new GPU.

I'm looking at either a 970 or a 1060 (3gb). which would be better for general gaming (CS GO) at 1080p? I'm not fussed about ULTRA settings etc..so doesn't need to be a total powerhouse.

is the 1060 (6gb) really worth going for? or the 3gb one still a good card to lookout, as you can guess i am on a tight budget atm.

cheers guys, RTJ

1060 6gb or 480 8gb would be my choices for 1080p, pushed to choose I think I would go with the 480, I feel it's got a bit more going for it long term

after my past experience with amd and nvidia, i would like to go down the nvidia route..

I'm looking at the MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 GAMING X 3 GB card. how will this perform for mid-high 1080p settings in games, (mainly CS GO like i mentioned) but also DOOM etc...

or do i really NEED the 6gb version guys?

The 3GB version is a cut down version of the chip. If it's not much dearer get the 6gb version, it'll be a little faster.

i have been watching a few videos on the tube (digital foundry) and the speeds are quite comparable. and surely the cooler on the MSI is good so will allow for a little OC on there? no?

How far the chiop will OC is all a lottery, but the MSI cooler is excellent, so will have no problems keeping the card cool

There's really very little difference between the 2 in benchmarks and given your required performance id say that a 1060 (3) would be adequate for your needs. Going forward id be silly not to recommend the 1060 (6) but the 3 should represent quite a saving.

Alternatively if you need 1060(6) performance and can wait a few years the 480(8) will (might) fill that slot nicely ;)
