970 or 290X?

Hello all, I know this is a constant area of debate but I was looking for some advice of people more dedicated to this than me

I was wondering what you think would be a better purchase a Geforce 970 or Radeon 290X. I have read a lot on the Nvidia issue & plenty of people slating it but I am coming from a GTX Ti560 so anything will be a big improvement. I have a couple of weeks until payday so I can make my mind up

I looked at the 970 as a better card on the power front but with its issues is the 290X a better shout?

I mostly play MMO’s like Eve Online, WOW etc. I wont be gaming above 1080P, PSU is a 650 Watt Antec

I like AMD and with Mantle etc that sounded good but there seems to be no support for the games I have named yet

For now just get a 290. It's a bad time to be buying a high end GPU IMO so do it on the cheap and save for the new ones.

I'd probably say 290 too.

At this point it should hold its value for a bit. Just chuck it in when the new ones are announced to get max resale and go back to your 560 to put you on.

If you are not going above 1080p then go for what ever is the cheapest, hell I would not even go for a 290x, you would save more by looking at the 290p as an option.

It will mainly depend on a monitor upgrade if you end up taking that route (Freesync/Gsync).
