Which is the best?

I have had some issues on ultra settings on the 970 (EVGA SC), which I learnt was to do with the 3.5GB Bug

I have been able to get my hands on a Radeon R9 290X Gaming Card at a snip (£234.99) and will be able to send my 970 back for a refund.

Would the 290X be as good as the 290 as there is at least a £50 gap between the cards and I am a bit dubious.

Give or take 970/290X are equal, win some lose some by a few fps at most.

I saw that in the benchmarks, but in the real world :D

Cheers, it's strange that its better on some, but not on others.

I think for the sake of £50 and being ripped off over 500MB of "Usable" memory (I use that term because the last 500MB is too slow and causes glitching) I will be better with the 290x. The only downside I can see is the temperature is a lot higher.

It says it needs 600W to power it, does that mean if I dig deep and get a second one, I would need 1200W PSU to SLI these cards?

Not at all. The 600W is total system power. For 2 you'd need around 850W. 1200W should be able to do 3.

Cheers. Might send the 750W back and get a bigger one, just to be future proof.

I can exchange now rather than buying a bigger one when the time comes and be nearly £100 out of pocket.

I ran an overclocked FX 8320 (4.7 and 4.9ghz) and a Radeon 7990 from a RM 750 and had no issues. I know it was probably right on the wire but I didn't overclock the 7990 any way. But yeah, as the lads have said you may want to get something bigger. I would get something like a 1000w. Gives you overclocking headroom.

That looks better and it's cheaper.

Is around the best value for money. I have one, don't be put off by what people say it's an awesome unit. I had a 3970x running at 4.9ghz on it with Titan Black SLI overclocked and it never missed a beat.

It's only £6 less (I was looking at the 80 plus Platinum), is there the same sort of support (Warranty) with the SupaFlower - The discount would cover the delivery :D

Not much in it performance wise, the 970 is of course quieter and cooler which is a plus for me. Depends if you think it's worth it paying £50+ more for that :)

The G1000 is £40 less mate. That's a lot of coin. I can totally vouch for it too. Apparently it's a Super Flower any way.

Missed that, I was blinded by the "80 Plus Platinum" :D

If it uses less power, it will pay for itself. That was my way of thinking :o

IIRC the rating works on how much power out of the rated power the PSU can deliver before it becomes inefficient.

80+ gold is more than enough. I only changed mine out because I was building an ITX PC and I didn't have a PSU for it. I checked the auction site and found a 1250w Enermax Revolution for £60 so I use that now. The G1000 went with the 8320 and 7990 and I used the RM750 for the ITX build.

But yeah, had that G1000 in my main rig for 8 months and it was absolutely awesome. EVGA are Super Flower any way so it's a great price.

Sorry to jump into the thread but i was thinking of upgrading my AMD Radeon R9 280 (4095MB) to a 970 https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-013-PL&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1010 but the question is will my AMD FX(tm)-4100 Quad-Core Processor at 4ghz bottle neck it. Hoping to play Witcher 3 at 1080p and get it looking nice. Thanks for any advice and info

I suggest a 290x for £229 and a FX 6300 if your board can run it.

Which motherboard do you use?
