970 or 290X

970 or 290X

Me personally I would go for the 290X even if it was a choice between the 980 and 290X.

Yeah I think I would go that route too. If you upgrade to 4k you can throw in another and have no memory bandwidth issues.

I just hope AMD get back to their driver support soon. I really want to buy a pair of 390/X but I'm terrified about the drivers for Crossfire.

The prices are insane on the 290/x's right now, it's unlikely there will be such value propositions available a month from now.

This line of thinking would make sense if the GTX 9X0 cards were assumed to magically disappear or get a drastic price hike once the new AMD cards (and the "980 Ti") are released - they won't and they won't, it's much more likely that they will end up being cheaper than they are now if anything.

290X trades with GTX 970 at current prices - if the "rebadge" was to be introduced at a much higher price point like some around here seem keen to suggest , who would they expect to be buying these cards?

I swear people on this forum are just trying to get people to buy up the 290's and 290x's in the hope that the stock going will bring the 300 series out quicker, I'd swap my Twin Frozer 290x for a 970 in a heart beat if anyone was stupid enough to offer too.

It says it needs 600W to power it, does that mean if I dig deep and get a second one, I would need 1200W PSU to SLI these cards?

A 2nd 290x like the MSI Gaming, XFX DD or Asus DCUII / Matrix is likely to throttle in a crossfire setup unless you have very good case airflow + plenty of space between each card.

A 290x PCS+ or 290x Tri-X are a better choice for a crossfire setup due to their better coolers.
