970 or 780ti

all depends ..if they were the same price probably the 970 and also on the make and model. I've just bought the 780ti myself but that was from a price point.
 
The 970 is £30 cheaper. The 780ti is a PNY model with a non reference cooler and the 970 is a Zotac non ref cooler.

Personally (even though I have a 780ti myself) I'd probably go for the 970. Going to be less hassle for you over the long run e.g sli driver updates.
 
For £30 less, and the Zotac likely having longer warranty left (?) then I'd go for the 970 in this case, agreed.
