Sealed in my Sarcophagus.
As above really... i have a socket 1366 6 core xeon and 12gb ram etc as in my sig.

I can afford either the 970 or the 980 i would go for the MSI versions.

Now i play stuff like wow, ESO and Shadow of mordor etc so am i right in thinking the 980 is going to be a waste on my system. I am currently on an MSI 7950 and everything runs fine. I have someone who will buy this for £120 so i can make some back on it.

The fact i am on windows 8.1 means the upgrade is worth it to support the new technologies of the Maxwell architecture.

What i am really asking is apart from the extra stream processors i gather there is no differance between the two cards? This will be my machine for the next 2 years at least so if i need to spend more now i will.

What would you do?

Get the 970 unless you're happy to pay £180 extra for 10% more performance. OC it and you're at stock 980 performance anyhow.

I'm waiting a few weeks and then I'll prob jump on a couple of 970's to replace my xf'd 7970's.

So i am right thinking that apart from more comp units they are identical?

I would overclock the 970 to 980 levels and just save £200 yeah :p

Edit: Sod it.... just ordered the MSI 970 :p
