970 SLI not working

yes deffo, because on max 1080p settings with everything turned right up............EVERYTHING.... the GTX 970 only just handles a modern shooter, it's far better in SLI of course, but 1080p is way short of full fat 4K.

Agreed 970 SLI should manage about 60-70FPS on near max 1440p hopefully they fix Assassin's Creed Unity by time I finish my build so I can play that. Like you in end I decided that a single 980 would just not cut it sadly.

a couple of other things to consider, the pc starts up and shuts down far quicker with one card, but SLI is way better once you start gaming.....Metro used to be a total pain, but it's dead easy now.

i've backed off the overclock a massive amount, but i've not lost many FPS so i'm quite happy, it's like 120fps down to 114fps...........so who cares :D

i'd deffo get 970 SLI right now.......but my guess is the Drivers aren't optimised yet, because the cards are definitely unstable....or i had it clocked too high, not sure

It wouldn't surprise me if the drivers weren't at there best yet. I'm very likely going to be picking up 2 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-205-OK in the first week of Jan. Did consider 2 970 HOF but in my Bit Fenix Phenom case I think the Cooler Design should help with the heat more with them using Blower Fans from what I read they are well made like the HOF cards.

Interesting to know I didn't realise SLI effected boot times thanks for the information appreciate it. Definitely going have pick up a SSD when I can afford one as well.

Sounds like an unstable CPU overclock. I know when I had trifire 290x's it put a lot more strain on the system and had to back off my overclock on my old 4770k to 4.6 instead of 4.7.

Read up a bit about it and apparently it's not uncommon for multi-gpu to put additional strain on both the motherboard (mine was a Maximus VI extreme at the time so built for stability and Ocing) and CPU thus causing instability.

I dont know how to look for that m8, sorry..... but their settings look the same on MSI AB.......................but they're deffo working whilst gaming.

my guess is that SLI was either turned off by all the latest drivers, or by all the FAR CRY 4 crashes i've had

Use a program like gpu id mate that should tell you everything you need. ;)

just got it, both cards are enabled and both are the same values, so that's good, i might back off the CPU overclock now, it's a bit high at 4.8 anyway

but to be honest it's a bloody good pc, it's miles more powerful than my last one.. it hasn't crashed today

4.6 is more than enough for games with sli 970's, you could probably get away with setting all cores to 44x multi. Only one turbo's to 4.4 at stock.

it actually feels faster !!!

in Daz 3D the mouse response is better..sharper....image rotation and rendering feels better too.

SLI is'nt screaming as much, maybe when it's stressed it's throttling back more, than at a lower frequency of 4.6 !!!:confused:.... not sure, it was maybe throttling right back and then crashing, whatever the case the cards were far noisier in Daz 3D than in Heaven Benchmark...
