I'm a bit torn. The 970 SLI will be £100 more. Also all current 970s look quite ugly and it's tough trying to get something that will go with my PCs colour scheme. I was going for a pure white & the green accent of the Gefore GTX logo. Asus X99 and Dominator RAm with its white LEDs. But there are no stock 970s with reference coolers so I'm stuck with the flamboyant designs there by MSI and so forth.

I'm gaming at 2560x1080 right now. I will be going for a new monitor in future with G-Sync but I'm looking for g-Sync & 1440p but not found anything I like in my price range yet (£400). 144hz would be ideal too.

The 980 isn't much faster than a 970, sadly. So it makes it less clear cut. There is the upgrade path with a 980 as I can stick another one in down the line. Where as the 970 is urrm. Oh. Actually no I could go for a 3-way SLI couldn't i..... hmm.

Gah.

as above, if you can afford the faster card now go for that.

I run a 970 at 2560x1080 and play BF4 at High settings and average 120 fps constantly. That's overclocked to 1500 boost and 8000 memory.

Two 970s would spank a G-Sync 1440 monitor.

Tough call.

I game now at the same res as you...

I had the same decision and decided to go SLI 970's

So far very happy

I didn't see the point in 980s in the end. Even as a future upgrade to 980 SLi seems pointless. The premium for the 980 isn't worth the added performance. At some point 980 Tis will show up and I'll be kicking myself if I spent £800-900 on 980s. As it stands a set of 970s cost just over £500. Well £580. But a 980 is around £430.

I got myself a 1080p monitor. A downgrade from my current 2560x1080 UltraWide in resolution, except that it's 144hz and G-Sync enabled :) so that SLi setup will be pushing me s close to 144 as possible for some ultra smoooooth gaming. I'll look at 1440p or 4k next year when the quality and price kinda improve.

970 gtx is like 10fps roughly slower then an 980gtx imo not nearly worth it over the 980 price tag. One could overclock the 970gtx to catch up even.

I still reckon while the 970 and 980gtx are great cards you know nvidia may release ti versions by xmas, and even worse early 2015 AMDs next gen gpu and then Nvidias so perhaps not worth blowing the wallet for now ;)

This is my thinking. I have enough for sli, but don't think it's worth spending the money when a more powerful gpu is just about to release. I'll hold out a little longer.
