9700=5800FX?

well the 9800pro was compared to the 6600gt 128mb and the 9700 is just slower than a 9800. the 9700's are still pretty decent cards. i would never compare them to the 56/7/8 series as these dont even support DX9! the 5900 series are pretty good though but i dont even think that supports DX9 properly, correct me if im wrong though.

Sorry guys...

The Radeon 9800 Pro was the ATI equivalent of the 5900Ultra (very similar speed to a 5800)

The 9700 was slightly slower than the 5900 Ultra.

This is BACK THEN, up to about 6 months after they were released.

It was then discovered that the 5900 (whole FX range in general too) had terrible shader performance. Then everyone started swearing by their 9800 Pro's.

The 6600 is far superior to the 9800 Pro and shouldn't even be compared in the same sentence.

EDIT - Loads of games started using shaders more and more - hence the 9800 pro wiping the floor with the 5900 after a while.

iirc it went

9700 Pro > 5900XT > 9800 Pro > 5900 Ultra > 9800XT & 5950 Ultra (on par? :confused: ) > 9800XT Ultimate > 6600GT
