Hi,
Just put together a machine which doesn't seem to like being overclocked. With simply the multiplyer set to 50, lifted the TDP limit to 255, 1.290v, upped the tjmax to 110 for testing, all c1 etc power states turned off. only running the ram at 2133 non xmp at the moment as that was causing crashing, got another topic on that.
got the new version of prime95 and temps quickly got to 90+ so I panicked and stopped the workers.
it was crashing so turned the volts up to 1.310v and it crashed even more and overheated faster. with this and the ram causing issues I set everything back to stock speeds and went to read more about how to get this to work on my setup. It passes testing at stock cpu and non xmp ram speeds.
Parts:
gigabyte gaming sli
9700k
h100x
Patriot viper 16gb ddr4 28800c17 3600mhz dual channel - pvs416g360c7k - 17-19-19-39 1.35v (running non xmp 2133mhz for the moment)
So where have I gone wrong? is it going to be possible to get more performance out of this i7 from overclocking without cooking the poor thing? Not overclocked anything since an old 3570k, things seem to have moved on and the gigabyte bios is different to others I have used.
Thanks
