Hi, what's the NV 9700m GT 512mb laptop chips desktop equivilant?

I'm looking to swap to a laptop and i'd like something as close to my current 8800GTS 512mb for performance, would this be close.

I've looked for guides and cannot find any, but im sure ive seen them before and im just being a bit thick.

Insults along with help very much welcome!!! :D

As far as mobile cards go, 8800GTX, 9800GT, think theres a 9800GTS as well...but they only have 112 shaders.

The 9700GT is not an equivalent AFAIK.

If its not an equivilent where would it place?

I take the ?800 is more important than than the 9?00

The 9 series mobile cards are basically slightly clocked versions of the 8 series on a newer process. So yes the suffix is more important.

9700M GT = slightly clocked 8700M GT = similar to 8600GT on desktop.

Edit: Actually, the 9700s do sport a 256-bit memory bus with more bandwidth, but other than that they're almost identical.

GeForce 9700M GTS 48 SPs 256-bit 51GB/s
GeForce 9700M GT 32 SPs 256-bit 26GB/s

9700mGT = 8700mGT = Overclocked 8600mGT so 9700mGT similar to 8600GTS desktop performance overall.

If you want similar to 8800GTS 512mb performance then you need to look at a 8800mGTX/9800mGT(s) (96 shaders) or 9800mGTX (112 shaders). All have the feature set of the G92 desktop cards although they are obviously clocked slower.

I personally have a 8800mGTX in my X80R and to give a rough guide it performs somewhere between the desktop 9600GT and the desktop 8800GT.

It is enough to crunch through most games at the laptops native resolution of 1920x1200 without having to drop many settings. (except crysis obviously).

For example I can run Mass effect quite happily maxed out in game with 2xAA @ 1920x1200, the framerates arn't sky high but its more than playable.
