Hi. I have never been pleased with my asus vg278he. It has never performed as I thought it would at 144hz. I have Asus Strix 970 GTX. I use DVI to DVI and no matter what I set it to the colours doesn't seem right. I have had this monitor a good couple of month not quite a year.

Call me stupid but I have never ever tried HDMI to HDMI. This morning I decided to try HDMI to HDMI and see if it was anything interfering with anything set wrong in NVidia control panel etc.

As soon as I turned on my PC onto desktop I noticed a lot of difference colour seemed more vibrant and not as pixelated. Also I went into Nvidia control panel and changed to full RGB and noticed better improvement still.

I went into game far cry 4 what I have been playing. I no this does have its own options in game to set it to 60hz plus. So been just HDMI it auto 60hz as I no this cant go above 60hz. The difference is amazing. Colours just seem more vibrant and can see further in the distance with out blur.

Even my mate said who thinks I have just been paranoid all this time said wait a minute you right colours do seem a lot better. The shimmer has gone too what look like Antialiasing not working at times.

Could it be the full RGB not working properly as in DVI there is no option in NVidia control panel when using DVI?.

When you were using DVI cable, did you managed to set the display to 144Hz?

Because the blur issue you mention could well be because of the display not running at the correct refresh rate. Also if I'm not mistaken, for 120/144Hz over DVI you will need to use "dual-link" DVI cable...not any DVI cable would do. Take my Samsung 120Hz monitor for example...if I set the refresh rate to below 120Hz, even the desktop would look very noticable blurrier.

Yes. I could pick from 60hz 100hz 120 and 144hz. I got the cable with my monitor and it said dual link. I tried every setting from 60 to 144 no different apart from input lag as did notice smoother at 144hz then 60hz with my mouse pointer.

I tried Preferred refresh rate in the NVidia control panel from app decide to Highest available but no different. But now using HDMI that option not there. So wondering if it had anything to do with that too?.

I can't say for sure, but I don't think there issue on software side that can really make DVI look that much worse than HDMI as how you described it.

See if you can borrow another dual-link DVI cable from a friend, or may be buy one from the rainforest to test and if same problem remains just return for a refund.

Harsh that the monitor doesnt have DP! Unfortunately your options are limited and the only thing that could possible affect it (although not guarantee to improve) is the quality of the DVI cable or put up with the 60hz limit of that hdmi version (Could be wrong about that, but I believe that is the limit with the exception of 3d movies)

That or it maybe time to look for a new monitor.

Hi. Just looked at the DVI D cable and at both connections the middle row of pins on both. The 3rd one from right is a lot shorter then the rest. The pin doesn't seem to be broken of but made shorter on purpose. should it be the same length. Just seems strange on both connection that the same pin is shorter then the rest.
