970Gtx SLI compatibility question.

It would work. However, I'd recommend selling your current 970 and buying a 1070 instead. Multi GPU performance is pretty disappointing in new titles and the up coming DX12 titles aren't exactly making the most of it. Plus 3.5GB VRAM (970's can't use all of the 4GB) isn't going to cut it for much longer at 1080p. The 1070 has 8GB vram and offers at least 50% more performance than a 970, so while a SLI 970 setup would technically beat it, the reality is that 100% scaling on multi-GPU setups is rare and improvements on games are often only seen after 6-12 months of game and driver updates. Even then, you're unlikely to see 100% scaling.
