I would still call the 970 high mid at that price.
tbh 970 gtx is a 1080 card for maxing games. its not for above really.

We know that now but at the time no one knew about the impact of the smm.
What's really interesting is how the reviewers have failed so badly and literally lapped up what nvidia said despite it being impossible. But not querying it.
for example if in kepler you couldn't disable an smm without disabling the rop entirely and the cache? I only have a non technical understanding of this but what do the reviewers think was cut back on the 970 to still provide a 256bit mem interface and 56 rops and 2mb cache?
Surely the 980 is the current high end, the *70 moniker has been used on the mid range in the 4,5,6 and 7 series.

the GTX 480 was very very similar money when they were sold - and it was definitely high end
please stop calling the 970 ( a £300 card) MID RANGE
that's the X50 and X60 series cards
Nah man, it'll always be mid-range in my heart. What "high end" cards have 256 bus ? rofl
As it currently sits in nvidias 9 series, it is the mid range product. The 980 being the high end, the 960 being the low end
It would be against company policy first and it was idiotic of me to mention his name here without him around and I apologise.

Nvidia would disagree with your opinion....
680, high end? Rofl.
erm it was when it was released - you know beating everything AMD had....

`retaking the performance crown`
that's anandtechs opinion, so yes - it was the fastest even If you want to think otherwise

im really laughing now - I posted anandtechs review from march , you link a forum post from7 months later?
pointless link by you?
NVidia themselves said it was the ultra high end GTX 680 - if you want to sit there going `la la la I cant hear you` , then by all means carry on - but the company that made it in the first place called you out and you failed.
Im one of those "uproarers" because I am on SLI 4K.
I can also reduce ram below 1GB but thats not the point
Im just saying what some boys/girls/whatever have mentioned so WE can "fix" the non-issue
