970's having performance issues using 4GB Vram - Nvidia investigating

Yeah I like the look of the reference one, what's it like for noise though? My case is an air 540 I've upgraded all the fans to be quiet ones so don't wanna be putting 2 loud cards in there!

I know this is ocuk forum but it is the best forum I have found regarding this issue.

Has anyone from "other" retailers had a refund? I bought from s.c.a.n and I am reading mixed reports as to whether they are accepting refunds. Some people have been outright refused and others seem to have been accepted when they quoted the sales of goods act.

It's pointless registering and using their forums as they are rubbish!

I bought my Asus strix 970 from ccl computers. I got this response when telling them about the issue with the card.

The graphics card do still infact have 4GB of RAM it however users it in a different method to the 980 and the other cards as its to do with how it off sets the last 512MB of the 4GB which is why it splits off after 3.5GB, nVidia official
response is to contact the cards manufacture directly if customers are having issues they have also advised us that all manufactures palit, evga etc can provide technical documents to customers so they can understand the process better.

Don't know what to say to that

Out of curiosity, are most people returning the 970s because:

1. they game in 1440p and the card is not the spec which was advertised on the box
2. they game at 1440p and the performance sucks
3. all of the above

Just wondering because despite the incorrectly advertised info, shouldn't it still be a great card at 1080p?

Nothing to say. Contact trading standards.

It probably is, but what if you currently game @ 1080p, but might want to upgrade to 1440p ?

Is it normal to have to pay the full postage amount? Now that all suppliers are backing ocuk up do they cover any of that? I don't mind paying a reasonable amount but I'm shipping from Dublin and it'll cost £40 ;/
Price I pay maybe for using ocuk, but won't stop me from buying everything from here as it is the best by far!

Hey Gibbo,

Had my 970's picked up today, and I'd like to buy that 295x2 thats on TWO, but im worried that it wont be on offer by the time my refund is processed. Could I possible get one for the TWO price once my refund is processed? (provided its not still on offer)

I'm going to be upgrading my monitor soon to a 1440p or higher resolution and my gtx970 has been struggling with a few games at 1080p with maxed settings. I purchased it to be future proofed from a 7970ghz and wish I had stayed on the red team and gone for a 290x 8gb to future proof my monitor purchase. I'm also worried about more games requiring more memory in the future due to the new consoles having access to more memory.

Good point. But I wonder how many people would've held onto the 970 for that purpose especially knowing that next gen cards were coming through within the year.

It's interesting as it seems some people were using it as a stop-gap purchase, while others were future proofing their systems, especially to SLI them or at least have the option to.

I think a lot of people are missing this very good point.

I 'upgraded' to 2x 980's for this very reason.

There are some amazing monitors due for release this year and I want to be confident I can buy one of these and have little problems.

I also use 3d Vision, so saying your just giving Nvidia more money then im sorry that's my choice.

;)

OcUK covers customers shipping (upto £12) and also covers shipping returning to board partners, all shipping cost come out of OcUK's own pockets, we are not covered for that. But it might be a few thousand tops but the grand scheme of things it is a tiny amount and what is far more important is keeping the customer happy and making this whole process as easy for the customer as possible. :)

Of course, if it goes of offer, just quote my post here saying we shall still honour the £499 price for you! :)

OcUK wants to give the best CS, hey it is why I am still here keeping customers bang upto date on our forum. :)
