It's like if you baked 100 cakes with a new recipe, how many of them would be flawless? 20? so you sell those 20 for the highest price (GTX980), the other 80 have some minor imperfections so you sell those much cheaper (GTX970) rather than having to throw them away.

The funny thing is if GTX970 had been a 3.5GB card initially without the deception it would have still been a better all-round card than anything AMD currently offer. NVidia might as well EOL it now and/or change the spec as it's tarnished by the hysteria surrounding what's happened.

So Nvidia used borked parts to make a gimped card.

Sounds a good fit.

I paid a total of £289.99 inc VAT, the cheapest 980GTX is about £419.99 then you have to factor in shipping costs, so what, £430+?

That's over £130 in costs, which in my situation is undo-able as I've only just paid the GPU off my card :(

I'd glady swap if OCUK put in for a courier pick up as I get in a highly stressed state when dealing with certain situations

Outside of cost it's not difficult to order a courier online to pick up a parcel, you don't even have to interact with a person (other than the guy who comes to collect it) or leave the house if that's the issue.

Ok pick up a 290 for less and put that towards next upgrade ;) Honestly I would not reward Nvidia for lieing through their teeth by returning 970 only to spend more money with them for the 980; when you can have 290 for 200 or 290X lightning for 299....Literally makes no sense to reward this behavior.

Well, I picked up a B Grade EVGA 970 for a reasonable price the other week and I'm going to stick with it - it's handling games well enough for me at the moment in 1080 and 1440 without all the bells and whistles on and I can wait until the next AMD or even NVIDIA offering. Whichever gets the best write up and recommendation here - after NVRAM etc. has been checked first of course ;)

It's kind of how the semiconductor industry works anyway ;)

Good high performing parts are binned as premium parts and sold for a premium
Slower parts which run low on power are binned as power saving parts and sold for a premium

Other stuff is sold as middle of the road. Sometimes small bits need to be disabled (if they can).

Although in the case of the 970, it's not a borked part, it's an architectural decision that happens to mess up the performance.

Got my RMA refunded today so couldn't be happier with the service :D.

One thing though, How do I go about getting reimbursed for postage? If it was a couple of quid I wouldn't be bothered but since it cost me £11 I'd like to be able to at least get something back.

I'll be sending my 970s back when I can finally get down the post office tomorrow. I'll certainly be posting on Trustpilot once the refund has gone through - top class service from OcUK on this one as always. I'm currently eyeing up a 980 now (with OcUK of course), but I'm wondering whether to fall back to my stop gap card and hold out a little while longer...

I have gone back to my old gpu and going to stick with that till AMD release their cards or wait and see what else happens with the 970 situation which judging from Nvidia nothing!

either way the new gpu will be through OCUK as always

If I had a fallback card I would wait, just to see what AMD throw out, I am not sure we will have to wait as long as June/July for the new 300 series. I am pretty sure that is just the *latest* date by which they want to release them. I am in the unlucky position of not having any fall back options... only Intel HD graphics :D
