970's having performance issues using 4GB Vram - Nvidia investigating

Absolutely it should be discussed but I feel it has been discussed to death now. nVidia have chosen to do what they have and that's that. OcUK are not nVidia though and you would be better off posting on the Geforce forums to get your point across, as that is where nVidia are most likely to see that you are unhappy with them and the way you have been treated by not getting all the ROPs and a slower 500MB of VRAM.

:)

Have to agree to a point.

I like you gregster, you could become one of my favourites :D

I actually laughed when someone posted
"because fanboy" at you

any ways peace out :)

Haha, thanks bud. I also think nVidia did wrong here and should have offered a refund from the off and I can see this annoying a fair few people in the long run, so might have damaged their PR some what. What I always want is AMD and nVidia users to enjoy gaming on their system without problems and nothing worse than having a Wednesday night BF4 session with my friends from MLG and they keep getting problems in the game and I feel for them.

Ohhh and I am a raging nVidia fanboy for those that don't know me :D

i've been at work all weekend.... every night here after work it's the same Krap on this thread.....page after page it's all the same

are we in the least bit interested any more.......just make your mind up what you're going to do and shut up about it.

So to sum things up great customer service versus a company too big to care. I am sure nvidia are helping ocuk behind the scenes but cannot be seen to admit to any issue with the full 4gb not operating as expected. Really wanted to go nvidia for this build for the Linux performance but they just leave a bad taste in the mouth regarding this. Agree that this thread is pretty much done although can see this issue rearing its head as hardware requirements continue to increase. 1080p should be fine for some time though.

I have decided after much consideration to return the graphics card and am in current discussion with the ocuk staff. Especially as I'm a huge Skyrim modder and need every bit of vram in the future, ENB's SLI etc

So how does this work? I return the card based on the 4GB Vram scandal and get an automatic refund? It's the Gigabyte G1 970GTX...

I will probably buy another gpu in the mean time before the refund, although not sure which one to get, but I have to hope that OCUK refunds me or I'm screwed

As far as i know, yes.

Id contact them first though through the CS forum though, just to make sure. :)

That was sorta my point above, with the likes of GTA5, Witcher 3 etc...., what if they are gona use more than the 3.5, say 3.6/7/8, means they'll be having to use that 0.5 chunk, which is going to cripple performance.

Considering I purchased one of the most expensive GTX 970's I expect everything to deliver! But really stuck in a hard place atm, I hate AMD and the fact it only has 11.2 whereas Nvidia's next one up is the 980 but that's far more expensive.

hes gunna cry soon watch when you see new game benchies :D

I feel like crying at the moment, just another hardware kick in the balls :p

corrected for you ;)
Nice one thankyou.
How long has the 970 got left being fine though, as what will games like GTA5 (and when modded), The Witcher 3 (also when modded) etc.... demand in vram.
Like Dying Light, youtube gameplay videos show the GTX 970 just about 3.5 vram, nvidi'a geforce 1080p screenshots show the GTX 980 just above 3.6. Longer gameplay sessions resulted in near 4GB.

I think NVidia are limiting VRAM usage on the 970 via drivers.

They really should have just made it a 3.5GB card. Surely it's easier to just tell the game it's got 3.5GB to use, rather than '4GB but 1/8 of that is going to perform quite differently to the rest.'
