970's having performance issues using 4GB Vram - Nvidia investigating

Whether or not we will get refunded is an unknown.

And I am not angry. I'm not cursing nvidia, crying for blood, blablabla.

But I have had performance issues which I have patiently waited to be fixed (gaming at 4k) and it doesn't look like that going to happen.

There are no 4gb cards that will function well under all circumstances at 4K unless you reduce the settings when needed.:)

I can tell you from the benching threads that the performance of 3 way GTX 970s is top notch.

Some people could pick up some real bargains.
May end up moving from 780 sli yet. Stick this pair on auction, buy some cheap 970's and still have money left over.:D

Though tbh, ive scan read this thread and it doesnt seem like a massive problem.

I am pretty sure that there is something in the sales of good act or another law regarding false advertising and getting a full refund...

CBA looking for it now, will look later and post if I find anything.

Nobody has answered this yet lol

Indeed, joking aside that is really the main issue going forward.

But perhaps the most frustrating scenario isn’t having more than 3.5GB of necessary resources, but having more than 3.5GB of unnecessary resources due to caching by the application. One VRAM utilization strategy for games is to allocate as much VRAM as they can get their hands on and then hold onto it for internal resource caching, increased view distances, or other less immediate needs.

Dear me there are a lot of see you next tuesdays in this thread.

Going to try and return my cards more out of principle than the actual issues, not sure how far I’ll push it yet as I did buy them on a CC so I have a couple of options.

Failing that I’ll just bung them in a cupboard and write it off as a bad experience.

does the card function in 99% of games? yes? then I doubt you`ll get an RMA based on ram issues.

at t the end of the day the GTX 970 is a good card- but for those who use all 4GB of ram in games , it could be a different matter.

going forward? the issue might well become more prevalent with more games using 3GB + of ram at 1440P

It could be returned as mis-sold under the sale of goods act surely?
