So you'd design a bespoke die then?

Like i said, i dont think so.

I would actually, not being cheapskates at the expense of their customers. The fact you're even defending this is laughable...

Enjoy your 3.5GB GDDR5 + 512MB DOGTURD GTX970. Don't come crying when your 4K gaming is a stuttery, hitching mess.

Oh dear Nvidia, not too clever at all.

A couple of things though, I cannot find anything from Nvidia it's self saying that the 970 has 64 ROPS and 2048 KB of L2 cache. Loads of reveiew websites saying that but nothing from Nvidia themselves.

Would I send my card back? Well if OCUK told us that they would accept them back for a full refund then maybe I would, but only because I have a little spare cash at the moment so I could get something else.
Personally I don't think there is a cat in hells chance of Nvidia agreeing to a mass refund and you can most certainly bet that online retailers like OCUK wont offer one without the go ahead from Nvidia.

Its not a good situation to be sure.

Myself until my monitor goes bang and its been fine for the last 5 years or so ( of course I'm going to regret saying that now) I wont be changing from 1200p even though I have had a mess about on my 4k TV but the refresh rate on it is not good. So the whole issue probably wont effect me.

Ignoring people whose opinions differ from your own, what a world to live in. Where everyone thinks alike.
Typical AMD owner tbh.

I said i had a time machine, knew he was going to post that.
Knew it.

I have 1x 970. not enough for 4k. this episode has not changed that in any way.

Watch the call of duty video couple pages back 970 vs 980 amd the stuttering on the 970 is very easy to see vs the 980..

Very shocking, if this can't be fixed then the only thing the user can do is to stop the gpu hitting the vram.

lol.

You dont even know the irony of what you've just said.

Why? By my 280X's being able to use ALL of their 3GB of VRAM without the performance suffering?

Maybe not 1x GTX970 being able to run 4K, if ever you decided to add another in SLI for 4K. Or you played a game a game which can easily make use of more than 3.5GB of VRAM. i.e. Shadow of Mordor & DA:I
