Just after a quick motherboard recommendation, would like to pair a core2 Duo E6600 with a 975X board, restricted to this chipset due to running X1900 crossfire at present.

The DFI infinity 975 is looking favourite at present due to its great price and good reported overclocking potential using latest bios,I will be using fairly highend watercooling so will be looking to clock the 6600 as high as possible.

Could anyone using the infinity give any pro's/cons.

Any advice concerning 975X boards would be welcome,I've done a fair amount of research over at Extreme and DFI street(DIY street now!)among others but I'm yet to find the cure to my indecision,Ive also been considering the Asus P5WH Deluxe,Intel Bad Axe 2 and DFI RD600,all seem to have their fair share of niggles though.

If you're not bothered about SLI/Crossfire then i'd go for the Bad Axe 2... it's proven in terms of rock-stability and great overclocking. :)

Yes,the Bad axe does seem to hit the spot in many places,it offers crossfire which I require and good overclocking potential.

Main problem with it though is high price,it's almost double the cost of the DFI Infinity which offers similar features.

If it was a far better board than the DFI Infinity or P5WH Deluxe I wouldn't mind paying the extra, but I'm not convinced that it offers enough to warrant the extra cash! :)

why not just sell your x1900's and get a 8800 GTX?

That way you can get the better 965 chipset or indeed a 680i/650i mobo.

Yeah,I've considered this too but not sure how much I could get for the 1900's, 1 XTX and one X1900XT Crossfire edition,if I could recoup around the £300 mark then I'd go for it.

I'll have a look around and see how much my 1900's are likely to fetch.

Seriously considering the DFI Infinity 975X or Asus P5WH an E6600 and a good clocking 2Gb set of DDR2 though, around 400 quid and I reckon the performance increase over my exisiting setup would be enough to be worth the outlay, wouldn't mind holding out for a DX 10 card or cards until later in the year.

Cheers for your suggestions Rich and Easy! Both have provided food for thought.

x1900s wont fetch much over 100 each after postage im afraid pal! Hopefully you'll get lucky and find someone whos keen, but i wouldnt get your hopes up.

i think you'll find the DS4 and DQ6 from gigabyte clock well and do crossfire.

Auction them off.

The DFI infinity I had for a week. But bios updates have made this an ok mobo.

The P5W DH I was not a huge fan of either.

I would ditch the clumsy Xfire and get a 6600 with a 965 chipset like a ASUS P5B or DS3 or if getting a 8800 get a 650i with looking into SLI.

Xfire will hopefully be going soon,it's been a huge disappointment tbh,not sure if dual graphics is really worth the price-performance ratio. A 650I as you suggest, with 8800GTX and Core2Duo will be quicker, cheaper and less power hungry than my current setup.

Will prob hang on for a month and see what the RD600 can offer, then make a decision, trouble is the X1900's will be worth even less by then!
