980 Going Fuzzy.

OcUK GeForce GTX 980 "Reference Design" 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card is the card in question.

When I boot up sometimes my 1st screen goes fuzzy while the second stays fine.

I've put a watercooling block and backplate on it. Would either of those cause this? I mean the die didn't crack (Im sure if it did it wouldn't play ps2 on ultra for 3hrs.)

I've recently had issues with DDR4 RAM. As... with the 16gb kit I can't even memory test the kit without it rebooting. The mobo has the latest bios and none of the xmp settings are enabled.

I've been guessing its the ram but I don't know for sure. Am I okay playing w/ tripple or just dual or would (Its 2011-3, A1, b1 and d1 ram slots being filled?.)

Edit: Memory test says the 3 dimms in right now are perfect.

Last thing I can think of... I've only put 1 cable from the psu for both of the 6 pin connectors... im guessing it should be 2. (Both 6 pin are installed but from 1 cable from the psu so they're in series.)
It only goes fuzzy when say changing rez's when cpu and gpu loads are high and my other 980 msi which had 2 cables going to it never had this issue.

Have you tried a different cable from the card to the monitor?

Also when using the 3 sticks of RAM which pass mem test does the problem still persist?

Op, could we see a pic of the issue?

Simon, this has nothing to do with watercooling. Air is not fine if you want to achieve high clocks 24/7 and very low temps and noise.

As of right now *crosses fingers* it seems to have been the power cable issue. I've not been able to replicate the error since fixing the cables.

In terms of cables, I did switch from a HDMI and DVI setup to Dual display ports.

Its not an issue of overheating, the thermal pads were all installed correctly and the GPU core temp (Not OC'd yet) is 28'c active (1278 mhz on boost) and my 5930k is averaging 32c at 3700 mhz (I use AIDA 64 stresstest to get these numbers) coolant is staying between 21 and 29'c.

Im honestly hoping it is the power issue and i'll report back if it happens again.

I'll honestly tinker with clocks in a few weeks.. just want to enjoy my pc again before I ruin the stable nature of it, lul. Plus its quiet as a corpse.

Edit: with the 3 sticks it passes fine everytime, no restarts mid test no hardware errors detected then the test freezes and stalls out.

So new development.
Trying to 'Print screen' the issue only showed up normal. So could this just be the shared display port glitch? Where they share the same display port controler?

This has been resolved.

It was the connections used.

The first 2 display ports on the GFX card (OCUK getforce refrence design 980) shared output and thus often caused issues when new screens were generated..

PSU is a 850w Corsair
CPU 5930k @ 3.7ghz (No serious OC yet.)
DDR4 Vengence Corsair Ram @2133 (no XMP settings yet.)
Asus Deluxe MOBO.
3 Kingston Hyper X SSD
1 3 TB Mech HDD
OCUK Getforce 980, no OC yet (1217 mhz max)

Nothing else much to say really.. just freaked out, spent a lot on this computer and it just wasn't working as it was meant to xD

HDMI and Display port connections work fine with zero issues.
