Basicaly ive had my 980 for only 2 months, about 10 days ago I would get random crashes, where anytime during gaming it would crash to deshtop, recently the crashing got so bad it would happen within 30 seconds of starting a game, it would crash when I played GTAV and Reddragon Wargame and Witcher 3

The crashes are so bad the the whole PC will freeze, black screen, and no response.

I dont know why this happens on a new card, I have changed nothing on my PC, all my other components are perfect working order.

I have un-installed the drivers and re-installed with previous drivers, no avail.

I believe its the GPU thats developed a fault, anyone else on the same boat?

Ps im without a GPU, will RMA it but it will take a long time, If I purchase another GPU to use in the meantime can I send it back for a refund?

You could potentially buy another GPU and send it back (within 14 days) for a refund, but it's a bit dishonest and definitely abuse of the regulations. I couldn't in good conscience do it.

You could buy another and have SLI when your first one gets back ;)

I don't really think you've got enough to go on to say the GPU is faulty anyway. What other components are in your PC?

What make/brand is your psu?
Temps of cpu and gpu??
Rest of system specs??

Edit:was the card overclocked? Was there a driver crash notification "device removed" or similar?

well I have a i7 cpu 920 and a x58 gigabyte ud7 mobo and 12 gigs of ram and a xfx silver 850 watt PSU

Seer the issue is the first 70 days of usage was perfect, Id play all the latest games fully maxed out no issues at all.

The crashing started around a week ago, it was infrequent hence why I ignored it, and I didnt install anything and have no new harware, so the last few days it been the worst!!

If I use my PC for web browsing or movies its fine but as soon as I start a game it completely crashes the whole PC, and sometime it takes it to the blue screen and does a repair thingy??

I really think its the card coz all my other stuff seems perfect, Only when I game I get this awful issue....

And having spent £480 only 70 days ago I am worried now, I have a RMA but if i send the gpu away I wont have my PC

ps I would want to buy another but the inno 3d 980 boss is so fat and wide ats taken over 3 pcie slots so i have no space for sli, unless i have the smaller referenced card....

im stuck, what do u guy suggest?

ive never overclocked this card as i dont have the expertise to do it, theres is a message that pops up but it goes away b4 i can read it...

ok i have done the run and eventvwr thing but what am i looking for?

where do i see the notes for the gpu crashes im getting?

Look for errors in the windows log, it won't tell you its a GPU problem but anything to do with nv* services might give an indication. I have had similar problems in the past, so if I was taking a flying guess (and assuming its not a hardware problem) i would suggest running DDU (google DDU download) and do a full fresh driver install and see if that works

oh ok ive had a look at it and can see lot of subjects, i.e application, security system and set up and harware events, i randomly had a look and its to confusing, too many codes...

Im gona take the card out now and re-seat it, press the cmos to see if that stops the crashes.

funny thing is why can i browse the internet and watch movies?

why is it only in games that causes the crashes?

Can a gpu be faulty if you CAN browse the internet and watch movies but not work with games? ie gpu can fail when under 3d load right?

I'd say a psu issue, one way to test would be, set your cpu to defaults and if you have any ext. devices attached disconnect them and also drop gpu clocks by 100 if poss, then try a game, doing the above would free up a little juice and could help pin point the problem.
Also check what the amps are on the psu's 12v rail, also how is it connected to the psu, any adapters?
Whats the psu's age?

its quite a new psu at 850watt silver, the thing is i used this/these same components to play perfectly for the past 2 and a half months, i reckon if it was a psu issue then i would have have issues from day one, its connected via 2x 6pin connections,

also ive just discconnected my sound card and internal wireless adapter, removed dxrivers, still the same issue....

Ok if the psu is fairly new it should be fine. Would be well worth giving memtest a run, if you dont have it just go HERE and DL the usb installer and hit F8 to get to boot menu and run from there, do a couple of passes and see if anything comes up.

omg, the card is now crashing when im not in game, if im watching a movie the pc screen goes black, I can still hear the sounds from the movie for a few secs, then the monitor states, no device connected, and then the whole pc shuts down!, then need to restart!

it must be the gpu coz when it crashes the monitor connection goes, i can still detect everything else is working, before the PC goes, there is a no signal alert....

WTF, these Inno 3d boss 980 seem crap!

Hey all

I got my new system from Overclockers today with a gtx 980 and am having this problem, I can't play more than 5 minutes of Witcher 3 without the computer black screening and needing a hard rest. I can run eve online no problem and have done benchmarks using Furmark and OCCT based on recommendations I read elsewhere. I am not very tech but here is a link to the image of the GPU result from the OCCT benchmark if that helps? http://i.imgur.com/dHqmJSB.png

This is a really frustrating problem!
