If using for gaming with max settings but only on 1920*1080 how much longer do people think I can play with all setting to the max.
(Currently it plays anything out there at that res at max settings)
Deciding whether to keep this card for another 2 years or save up for the new 1080.

I just had this exact same thought. If im maxing out 1080p.....then whats the point of getting a 1070/1080??

The only point would be to game at 4k. But it looks like those cards won't handle 4K at 60fps. So I will wait for the 1080Ti or Vega. Whatever can actually do the job.

It's an interesting one for GPU makers, because they are facing a necessary "jump" now. rather than just keeping up with games.

i single card that can max out 4k is a long way away yet buddy.
1440 is the best option right now for gamer's that want to game and not just say look i have £8,000's worth of GPU's to max out 4k...

The latest games will always be a couple of steps ahead of the latest GPUs in terms of graphic requirements.

One day a single card will be able to run 4k but by then a lot of people could be using 8k.

Yeah I know. But I see myself getting a 4k monitor soonish. As youtube 4k, netflix4k, amazon prime 4k, my gopro films in 4k etc etc. It would annoy me knocking the resolution "back" to 1440p in games. Just think I would rather wait, and go 4k when its ready.

I don't see 8k ever taking off. Monitor sizes are fairly maxed out (just even based on the fact room sizes arent going to change). you wont see a difference between 4k and 8k on a 20/30 inch moitor.

I have a 980 and I don't plan on falling into the must upgrade trap because a new GPU has been released.

If anything the prices of the 980's should drop down and you could pick up another card for a reasonable amount/.

You only have to look at phones and tablets to see what is happening with resolutions. They have very small screens yet still run very high resolutions.:)

Yup, and everyone says how completely pointless it is. Also phones are typically held mere inches from your face. Trust me, for TV and gaming, 4k is most likely the end resolution, as the diminishing return beyond that point wont make it worth upgrading.

On a typical 42 inch TV (or say 28inch monitor) the jump to 4k is "WOW. it's like a window". the jump from 4K to 8k would be... "em, is it different?"

a lot still say this about 4k... your narrow mindedness dont mean it will never happen.

also not all 4k monitors are happy to be turned down to 1440 or 1080, saying you will drop res is sometimes easier said then done, you can get a very bad experience in game.
do you have the cash to buy top tear GPU? say £600+ also the cash to get a good 4k screen not an Argos £300 tv? again lets say £600+

dropping £1200 to turn ress down to 1440 when gaming because of stutter and tearing??

right now the sweet spot is 1440 for gaming and will be for a few years to come.
