I know this is unlikely but does anyone have an idea as to how big the 9800 GTX is goin to be? Like how many pci slots it will take up on the case?

8800GTX on top
9800GTX bottom

Wouldnt get so hyper over this 'new' series. The 9800GTX is identical to the 8800GTS with the exception of a slight overclock, and an additional SLI connector.

If you have an 8 series card already it is kind of pointless to upgrade unless you are going for the 9800GX2 which in it's self is just two 8800GTS's.

What anoys me right now about this is nvidia actually have another card ready, G100/200, and they will not release it untill ATI come in with there R700. So basically, the proper next generation card is ready to go, pretty much now, but they arent going to release it till they see what ATI will do.

I dont mean to be nasty but i hate nvidia, they are like the big bully waiting for you after school, and this is why ATI are, and always will be my choice, mainly because ati actually care about there customers and listen.

Just because ATI is the follower, simply. This is not down to individual person or business, it's the basic principles of marketing strategies. When they become the leader, everything would be changed.

When NV just launched RIVA 128 and RIVA TNT, if someone here as old as me:( and still remember them, they would remember NV were the same as ATI at the moment. They always brought the excitments to the customers with amazing prices. But after they swallowed 3DFX and smashed S3 (The ones own Voodoo3D and Savage3D), they have the power to watch and lead the market. There's nothing to be blamed, tbh.

why is it bigger than a gts (I dont think a GTS is as big as a gtx?) if that's all it is, except the things mentioned above ??

Because it clocks much heavier than 88GTS G92. So it needs a lot more power phrases as you could see on the board in the pic. How many mofests and caps there? 1, 2, 3,...

Although I can understand that point, but, I wouldnt let brand loyalty stand in the way of the best part for the money. Am all for ATI kickin some ass, to try and equalise the market, more so, I want to see AMD gain some ground to push intel harder. Yet, if I am ordering a part on any given day, I will simply go for what is the best value on that given day. Doesnt bother me if it is Nvidia, ATI, AMD, Intel or XFX eVGA.

Think the switch of all the AMD athlon fanboys to Core 2 Duo's illustrates there is little brand loyalty in this industry.

You'd think they'd have been able to make the cards smaller by now. This just means it'll be another card that won't fit in my case so won't be buying.

There is a difference between brand loyalty and fanboyism. I would have bought an AMD chip if they were at least competative with Intel (that is to say close to but not necessary equal in performance) however the performance discrepancy was too big for me to justify buying AMD despite my preference for that brand.

Did anyone see the overcklocked results over at VR, I cant find them anymore now
Had one at something like 850/2160/2370 core/shader/mem

Im sure an overclocked Ultra is like lucky to hit 700/1700/2400 so surely the shader performance of a 9800GTX is much more than the Ultra, whats this compare against a GTS-512 ?

I suppose all we can hope for is that the new ATi revision of cards make a good step forward and so force nVidia into making a big step also, so as to stop the current small steps that we are currently seeing, with both companies being guilty of this (ATi with the 2900-3800 revision and nVidia with the 8800GTS/GTX revisions).
