9800 GTX?!?!?!?

I suppose all we can hope for is that the new ATi revision of cards make a good step forward and so force nVidia into making a big step also, so as to stop the current small steps that we are currently seeing, with both companies being guilty of this (ATi with the 2900-3800 revision and nVidia with the 8800GTS/GTX revisions).

I think the difference is ati had to fix the 2900,where nvidia didn't with their cards so no incentive to bring out anything next gen as they weren't beening pushed by ati.

It will be similar on paper to the 8800GTS but will have the refinements internally that the 9600GT has to improve performance per clock.

It is not identical to a 8800GTS as such but a refined and improved version. Overclocking an 8800GTS would get the same results but you would need a higher clock then on the 9800GTX, which will also generate more heat.

It will still be a G92 but a different 3 digit code on the end.

thought the idea was the 9600gt only manages to get close to the 8800gt because simply put, the entire range was rop limited rather than shader limited, so the 9600gt didn't actually lose much performance that it could use in the first place. IE the 9600gt is balanced nicely and the 8800gt has a heck of a lot more shader power but due to bus and more likely number of ROP's most of that power goes mostly unutilised?

Is the 9800gtx still a 256mbit bus?

There's nothing new on the G94, bar DisplayPort support, the current G92 has all the same improvements.

Its clock for clock the same as a 8800GTS. And thats from someone who has one. Although the better ram and improved power circuits should help with average overclocks.

Wouldnt get so hyper over this 'new' series. The 9800GTX is identical to the 8800GTS with the exception of a slight overclock, and an additional SLI connector.

If you have an 8 series card already it is kind of pointless to upgrade unless you are going for the 9800GX2 which in it's self is just two 8800GTS's.

What anoys me right now about this is nvidia actually have another card ready, G100/200, and they will not release it untill ATI come in with there R700. So basically, the proper next generation card is ready to go, pretty much now, but they arent going to release it till they see what ATI will do.
