9800 GX2 upgrade

is there any point in upgrading from a 4870 512mb to a 9800 GX2?
If i sell my 4870 say for £120 will cost me £80 to upgrade.

I wouldn't have thought so - the GX2 might be a little faster but its reliant on SLI tech to get there and while in general it works pretty well theres still some titles that don't work with SLI. Your still limited to 512Mb of VRAM as well - so I would wait til you can get a faster 1gig card before upgrading.

i think i maybe wait a few months as i think i would have to upgrade my corsair vx550 aswell with the 9800 GX2

That PSU should be upto the job - my 8800GT SLI rig (essentially the same as a 9800GX2) runs off a 500watt OCZ PSU fine.

Be happy with what you got to be honest.

9800gx2 is the same as having 2x8800GTS 512meg cards in SLI configuration.

As for power. I also have my 9800gx2 running off a 500watt PSU and it works fine. With the video card on full load but not my CPU it uses 330watts. It would use around 400watts when CPU + GPU are at full load.

The GX2 is still a formidable card, though I personally wouldn't bother for £80 (I had an 8800GT SLI setup and it was fantastically fast, but again, price)
