Just building a new pc & gonna use my old one as a media centre, it has a powercolour 3870xt in it & my question is, should i use this in my new pc or should i get one of the cheap Leadtech 9800Gt's, would the improvement with the 9800gt be enough & noticable? or should i use the 3870xt in my new pc & buy a radeon 4870 to go in my media pc??
Or if not, what card would i have to get as a minumum for there to be a noticable diference over the 3870xt ?

The 4850 is faster than a 8800GTX 9800GTX and is currently the best bang for buck card.

Not sure on % but you will see a massive increase.

Having said that the 4850X2 is coming soon and this could be a 280GTX killer if the pricing is right!

Will you be playing many games on the media centre, if it's purely for core media centre activities eg. HD TV then the 3870XT will be overkill anyway... you can run a media center with a HD2400 / 2600 etc.

I'd only change the card if you find it doesn't do what you want or if the fan noise drives you crazy.

The media centre will mainly be playing high def movies in x264 .mkv format, & the hdmi output from the ati cards is a must, doute really that games will be played on it as it is going into a dedicated cinema room. i did consider getting a ATI4670 for the media centre as i think it has everything to play HD content & have the 3870xt in my new pc, only problem is the 3870xt is a lil old now & has trouble playing the latest games at 1680x1050 res, what would u suggest??
Do the cards u suggest have HDMI output & 7.1 audio passthrough??

If you are on a budget and want something more powerful than the 3870 for gaming then i would suggest the 4850 but if you can stretch to the 48701gb then even better will play all games at your res. I believe the 4870 is around twice as fast as the 3870 or not to far away when playing with high detail and aa. I said the 4870 1gb as at its price on here thats the only 4870 worth buying imo. All the 4 series cards support 7.1 according to the descriptions.
