Thoughts chaps, was going to go for GSO's , anyone know the power / ppd diff (that is running with them or has used them)

Many thanks in advance :-)

First shows points per day and the second shows points per watt. the 9800GT uses the same G92 core as the 8800GT, so you can see that it is a damm good card to fold with

That chart is from November when the WU's were different. Definitely go for the 9800GT(s).

Edited quote of me from Snapshots 8800GT thread.

*8800GS's* are not the value buy they were 2-3 months ago. 8800GTs are the way to go imo.

With the old 480 point WUs my GS and GT got the same ppd but now the GT gets around 400-500ppd more at the same clocks on the 384 point WUs.

As the 8800GT and 9800GT are the same exact card the quote still applies.

That quote was before he oc'ed the card gaining 1000ppd or 30% more :D
at stock the GS is only an ok card, but almost all of them get great shader oc's

when Oc'ed that beat a stock GTS 512mb in PPD, using under half the power and less heat

I've got a 8800GS and a two GTs. The GS clocks higher than the cheaper of my two GTs but still gets out pointed by it by a few hundred points on the 384 point WUs.

I'm seeing similar now, the 8800GS is being outgunned even by the 256MB GT I have, but only on some WU's on others they are still equivalent.

What is quite interesting is the 4850 is on parity now with the new WU's on the NV hardware.

Not sure if you already looked in to this or not and before you ask I don't know: There are different flavours of the 9600gso the newer one is built on the G54 core and only has 48 shaders where as the older version is based on the G92 core but has 96 shaders and from what little I know I think this will have a big impact on performance

any one else know?

Is their a cooler i can fit onto a 9800Gx2 ? it was reading 100c on one of its cores.

There were some water blocks, but i have no idea how available they are now. There were no aftermarket air coolers because of the strange design. 100 is a bit hot (technically its good till 105 when it starts to throttle, but i dont know how stable it will be at those temps). Have you tried adjusting the fan speed? Mine never went above 85 on auto (this proved to be an okay temp - never seemed to have problems), but was between 70-80 when i changed the fan myself (90-100%). Is your case airflow good?

EDIT: You could try the xtremesystems aftermarket aircooling approach - take the card apart and flip one of the pcbs. You then should be able to fit some kind of aftermarket aircooler. There is a thread on xtremesystems somewhere. Obviously this is a bit of a step beyond even watercooling! It should be fine on stock aircooling!

I have it set to 100% all the time. And yet its still over heating. I also have 2 other video cards in the same case both are 8800GS.

Its prob just to hot in the case the more i think about it. So im planning on adding another fan to it. Its an antec 1200 and all ready has 6 fans fitted. But i can add a fan to the side of the case. Im not sure should i point it blowing in cold air or maybe just have to pushing out the hot air.

Might try both and see which one works better. Best thing about it, its located just over the video cards so it should work well.

Modding the video card like you showing hmm just looks a bit risky :)

Also i would like to add my house would be hotter then most houses, due to its underfloor heating. But i have it off in the room with the computers.... But yet the house in general is around 18c and in the kitchen sitting room it will be hotter.
