I got a 9800Gt the other day and it isnt working the way it should be doing. I dont think its getting enough power, is it possible that the power adaptor (plugs into video card then into the 2 power cables) only one of the 2 connections is working? would it disply an error or run at all if this was the case?. Also dont know if this will help or not but when i start the pc up the fan is really loud for 1 sec and the same when shutting down. Any info would be great i'm going crazy trying to fuguire it out.

The fan speed in only regulated properaly once windows loads so at either startup or shutdown the fan will spin up. This feature is meant to protect the card by ensuring excess cooling.

This is common behaviour for the 8800 /9800 range

Are you having any other issues

the issue is that it runs badly on games, i am getting no where near the fps i should be getting. A few of my friends for example have the 9600 and run the games i am trying to play without a problem.

You'll need to list your basic system specs, the resolution you game at and examples of games you have issues with.

Well i got it for empire total war really and it runs badly, 2 of my friends who have the 9600gt and overall worse systems can run it on full no problems. I am gonna download the crysis single player demo and see how it preforms on that.
