i just bought a 9800gt 1gb boxed for £19 but i dont know if the pci e power socket on the 9800gt is 6 or 8 pins. which is it??

it is a 6 pin just found out. is £19 ok for that card?

It would struggle for 1920 res in the slightly more demanding games, but it would handle most games fine at 1680 res with some graphic settings turned down. But for £19, you ain't gonna get anything better.
