My brother's 9800GT he has decided needs replacing, it was reflowed by me personally a month and a bit ago but the fan's now dying as well, and since he's off to uni soon he wants something with a warranty.

What would be the best new replacement? He wants equivalent performance for as cheap as possible.

Am I right in thinking a 5750 would be the best equivalent?

Cheers

In terms of performance, the 5750 is about on par with the 9800GT.

However, this card currently costs £86 and is much faster than both - this really is an amazing deal.

May I ask what make and model PSU your brother is using?

That card looks fantastic for the money.

Is it just me, or do ATI seem to have the sub £200 market to themselves? I never see any nVidia cards recommended for less than about £200 - the 480 SOC and 570, basically.

'Tis an OCZ StealthXtreme 400W Revision 1.

He is considering them both, or a used 8800GT :p - Shame OcUK don't still sell those open box 8800GTS's for £42 a pop.

And yeah, I always find ATi are much better value for money in the budget market, Nvidia used to have it but they've gone all OEM/higher end now.

Used 8800GTs still seem to be the best bang for buck I can find though lol.
