9800GT Reviews Thread

What on earth is it with Nvidia and their shambolic naming scheme. It literally means nothing any more.

May aswell call is Nvidia Scooby Scooby Dooooo GT for all anyone cares. Drives me nuts !

Can't see the point in that card at all. It would be an ok buy for about £80 but i bet it will be more like £130. You could just buy a cheap 8800 or pay more and get a 4850. I just dont see where a 9800gt fits in

And yet every time I read a tweaktown review I can't help but feel that their games lineup is a little skewed towards nvidia. Eh, either way it's nothing but a rebranded 8800 GT made slightly more expensive. I think the 9800 GT is similar to the 9600 GSO/8800 GS in that the AIBs are allowed a bit more freedom when it comes to customising the cards design as opposed to cards like the 8800 GT and 9600 GT.

Hi there

The 9800 GT just appears to be an 8800 GT performance wise. Yep it supports Tri-SLI but really thats something very few people will take advantage off.

My advice is either get an 8800 GT now they are cheap or get the faster and better featured 4850. :)

lol even my gigabyte 8800gt looks the same as the 9800gt in that review posted above. except that my card came with a higher factory overclock and cost 85 quid brand new.

i cant see the point in the 9800gt unless they used the 55nm core to begin with.

here is a pic of my 8800gt next to my 8600gt.

mh i thought 9800gt will be 55nm

oday is the launch day of Nvidia's 9800GT GPU, or the card that comes with the 55nm version of the G92 GPU to be exact. The Asus 9800GT is already listed and available in Europe and it's lowest price stands at €115.55.

According to the listing, this card works at 600MHz for the core and comes with 512MB of DDR3 memory clocked at 900MHz (1.8GHz effective). The shader clock is set at 1.5GHz and it is still not clear if this is a 55nm or the 65nm version. The listing on Geizhals.at does state that the card in question is 55nm, but retailers didn't list the manufacturing process or the support or lack of the support for Nvidia's Hybrid Power.

Either way, it would be hard to see if the card is made at 55nm manufacturing process when you buy your card from e-tail, so be sure to double check it. You can find Asus' 9800GT listed here.

and it still fails , 4800 series for the win tbh

they did use aa, you need to read that review again. and whats wrong with testing that boats game? many people still play it.

In the single page of results that showed AA/AF results (interestingly only at 1280x1024), the 4850 came top in each test. Not bad in a bunch of games that have traditionally favoured Team Green.

I feel we will get a clearer picture of where this board truly lies once additional sites publish results.

Wow its a good job I never got a 4850 I certainly would not be happy as its not much faster than an 8800GT if a 9800GT is basically an 8800GT.

And for only £10 less then a branded GTX+ to an OCuk 9800GT you've got to wonder who would buy one of these. And that doesn't even count looking at the competition from ATI.

The only thing it does is bring down to the 55nm process and add Tri-SLI, hardly earth shattering, but does bring into line with the 9x00 series in moving to a 55nm and Tri-SLI.
