9800GTX or 3870X2

Face it when you say its "virtually" the same your sayin that its ISNT the same but you dont want to look at the bigger picture and realise that they are different. Obviously they may be close but how many of you can honestly say they believe what other people are putting on the internet. I know that im going to get a 9800gtx then decide for myself how good it is. And on top of all that they say that its nearly the same price as the 3870X2 but how many of you have found stores that have the prices for a 9800gtx? I havnt found any that are legit.

Very legit:

I think nVidia has gone insane £252 for that when you can get a 8800GTX for £193 and 8800GTS 512MB for £164.

Looks like it - exactly - they're thinking people will think this is 'next generation etc' who aren't in the know.

The last time I read as well - nvidia users were saying that they've stopped driver support for the 'named' 8800 series. I don't know if that is still the case even though the 9800s are still 8800 tech.

with the 9800gtx being the same price as the 8800gtx on OCUK is woth getting the new one over the old 8800 if your still using old tech like the 7900gtx

It's not the same it's almost £60 cheaper and when overclocked it will run faster than 9800GTX. This 9800GTX is a complete joke and targeted to a non-informed average rich Joe. Much better to go with an 8800GTX.

Yeah i can only see these 9800GTX's being sold through pre-built rigs that as the previous poster said only non informed rich joes would get. As to the origional question to try and keep this answer minorly on topic :D i would go for the 3870x2 ofcourse as i think has already been made a popular choice by every other poster. nvidia have really done themselves in with this latest generation if ATi launch a very nyce 4 series then well done chaps.

Also i think its becoming an automatic guarantee that if you mention nvidia and ATI in the same thread then you will get a lot of interest and replies.

The 9800GTX is ONLY worthwhile if you intend to use Tri-SLI (3 boards). As most people do not own a Tri-SLI mobo and would not spend £700 on 3 graphics cards this card will only be attractive to people who a). Do not know what they are buying, or b). Have money to waste.

The 8800GTS can be easily overcloked to the same GPU speeds and the slighly higher memory speed of the 9800GTX will only make a small difference.

The best value cards are the 8800GT and 8800GTS. Both will offer 80-90% of the performance of the 9800GTX for a lot less money. NVidia get no credit for releasing this piece of garbage. I think I'll wait for the next big ATI card.

Maybe a little bit for reducing some prices? :P.

It more expensive than borth the 8800gtx(faster) and the 8800gts 512 thats the same card, all nv had done is rebage the gts and added £100 to the price, the only thing they get repect for is being a bunch of lead swinging monkeys.

Not quite, the +1 only brings it back to 0....

A hotfix is CORRECTING a problem, not improving something beyond its normal performance...

Like say the nVidia detonator 40s did....the good old days!

Pardon? Your saying get other than the 9800GTX? Why may I ask, its basically a faster 8800GTS...Are you mad? Do you own one? Have you got issues with it?

Ah of course, you're just jumping on the "We hate 9800xxx bandwagon" :p

To be honest either card would do really taking into account the hotfix, wouldn't really wanna pay more than £50 more for the X2 though...

LOL!!
"We hate 9800xxx bandwagon" ... you are mostly right although i wouldn't say "hate". more like the "We think the 9800GTX is pointless and overpriced bandwagon". go read some reviews and tell me if 9800GTX is a good buy.

and when i said "ANYTHING" i was refering to gfx cards in the same budget and league as 3800X2 or 8800GTS...

and one more thing...you're post is retarded. thanks
