Significantly improved

Nvidia plans to launch a new Geforce 9800GTX driver and we’ve learned that you should expect a severe performance increase compared to current drives.

We know that this performance jump will affect 9800GTX but as its G92 based card the new driver might speed up some other G92 based products.

Nvidia is doing this simply as with current drivers Radeon 4850 and 4870 are getting too close to 9800GTX performance and Nvidia wants to make some stand.

The performance might be so good that internally Nvidia calls it 9800GTX+. If we see some big improvements that will clearly mean that Nvidia was holding some performance potential back and that it was waiting for the new ATI card.

It wouldn’t be the first time.

Well its certainly good news for me at least :D

Yeah well to be honest it doesnt surprise me either, they must have known this all along and deliberately held back. Good thing is though I only bought this card on Friday for about £140 brand new :D So essentitally I could be looking at an even greater bargain soon enough!

Problem I see here is that NVidia could have released the driver, it would have been faster than the GTX properly and then people would have actually bought the card in droves....doesnt make sense really why they've held back if this is the case!

This really does make the decision tougher for those on the 8800GT/GTS and 9800series who were thinking of jumping ship to the ATi cards. Also is the GX2 not 2xG92 cores which in theory would also bump its performance meaning getting closer to the GTX260/80 lol!

ATi drivers = Monthly with performance updates....

NVidia = Once in a blue moon :p So I would like to think we deserve some performance updates too all rolled into one! haha!

question will this driver actually even surface? or was that site making a mistake and was actually referring to a new card, the 9800gtx+ offering the additional performance.

the g80 and g92 being as fast as it already is i just cant see it getting any quicker at all on a driver front.

if anything the new driver that touts more speed is probably got the gt200 series cards.

The new driver is mentioned again in regards to the new article on the "new" cards! So yes it would appear exist!
