Hello.

Getting a single 9800GX2 delivered soon. Is it right that I have to enable SLI in the Nvidia cp to utilise both cores? or can I just leave it be.

Its just Iv'e read conflicting threads on the net. Some saying you have to have SLI enabled, others saying it will use the two cores automatically.

Thanks.

yeah you will need to enable SLi, it's just the same as having two cards, except it's in one slot. Like Helmet said you don't need a nvidia board to run it.

By default SLI should be enabled once the drivers have been installed, it always is each time i install new drivers. But in the NV control panel there will be an option down the left side: "set multi-GPU configuration" and under that you can disable or enable SLI.

The only reason to disable SLI that i can think of is if you have two monitors connected, because if SLI is enabled it can only output to one monitor.

Oh and i recommend using these drivers with the GX2, i've found them to offer better performance than any others so far.

SLi was enabled as default on mine. Which model are you getting? The el-cheapo OCUK one was what I went for. The card is a 'TwinTech' model...I'd never heard of them before but the bundle was acceptable, containing the various required cables, a driver CD and a warning leaflet regarding the power requirements of the card.

It weighs about the same as a house brick and is just as heavy, so make sure you prepare for that. Also bear in mind that it exhausts a lot of hot air straight into the case, so you might want to add a fan or something. In my case the hot air blows onto my watercooling tubing leaving/exiting the case which puts more heat into my loop :(

To summarize, this card is basically the equivalent of an american muscle car - loud, obnoxious, but able to pummel the competition into submission!
