So I won an auction for some water-cooling stuff that I didn't need but it was very cheap; a DDC with XSPC res top, a 240 rad, a Fuzion with pro mounting and a Aquagrafx full-cover block for a 9800GX2, all for £50.

Then I saw a very cheap 9800GX2 going which I got for under £60.

Which was nice.

But, when I tried the 9800GX2 on air with both cores folding, at load the cores were going to 104C and then thermal throttling to 50%.

Time for some water.

So this is what came out.

Yuck.

So this is what it looks like at the moment (not permanent but good for testing.

Full load temps are now <50C, no thermal throttling and all is good. NOw I just need to take it all apart and fit it properly.

hi just a little tip, the weight of the water block can eventually bend the card over time. I just used a rod for support. Try the same?

Was that with one of the Aquagrafx ones? It's incredibly thin on each side and weighs very little. Still, sounds like a good idea.

Nice work mate! Have a 9800GX2 on water myself, you got a great deal. Where did you manage to get the card from so cheap though? :O

Got it from an auction at the last minute and it was only so cheap because the guy had taken off the outside. By the looks of the screws, the previous owner had possibly water-cooled it as well.

Nice work and a bargain! You overclocked the cores at all? I have 3 of them folding doing 10000-11000ppd each (5000-5500ppd each core) :)

I sit mine on 753c/1882s/1114m stable myself, can probably squeeze a little bit more out of it without volt modding. The cooling is crazily effective, it's scarce you'll be able to overclock anything so much and still remain at half air-idle temperature under load.

I ran it up to 700/1728 but with both cores folding, it made absolutely no difference whatsoever to the folding speed

I've read around and it seems that in many overclocking tests the same thing was seen particularly with 3DMark.

Not overclocked much. Just 625/1674. What do yours get to?

Mine are just on 650/1622 (stock ram speed as its not needed for folding) but mine aren't watercooled but have cases removed and fans on 100% :)

Should be able to take yours quite a bit higher then judging by what others are running!
