Hi, my 9800pro has decided to start flashing neon stripes and dots all over my screen so im going to need a replacement till i do a complete system upgrade in about 9-12months. I have a couple of questions...

Firstly ive no idea what the equilalent card to a 9800pro is now? Ive read on here that the geforce 7600gt is a pretty good agp card but maybe a bit overkill for my current setup and for a card i will only use a year. Current setup is a Barton2500@3200 on an nf7v2 and 1gig ram... Is a cheaper card like the ati x1300 or x1600 closer to a 9800pro? I dont want anything worse than i have as i still play quite a few games.

Second thing.. What are these newer cards like on power? I only have an Enermax 350watt psu, as well as the overclocked cpu i also have 2 hdds and a dvdrom. Im a little worried these newer cards may need a bigger psu? I really dont want to have to replace that aswell.

Any help or advice appreciated, apologies if this is hard to read, can only just make out what im typing with my screen flashing all these colours.

had same situ as you and went with a 7600gt agp at £135. This would work great with your system and gives double the performance of my old 9800 pro.

If you don't want to spend too much you could opt for a 6600 agp, think if you look around you could get one for 50 - 60 quid. The 6600 is only slightly more powerfull than a 9800 pro. I think you can still get 6800 xt cards in agp for around £70 - 80.

Look at the x1600 pro if you want to spend around the 80 quid mark. sapphire do a good one at this price. If you can stretch go for the 7600 gt...

I got this 6800 GS when my 6600 GT died [OcUK GeForce 6800 GS 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (AGP) - Retail (GX-035-OK) 158.61 Inc VAT ]. I managed to unlock the pipes and vertexes and push the core/memory from 350/1000 to 475/1150 (with a zalman cooler mind you, but it did 400/1100 on the stock cooler, which isn't bad). I can recommend it.
