Hi all, iv been advised that with my budget, i cant go to socket 939 or later yet, so i cant afford to go PCI-E. With that in mind, what AGP card is worth upgrading to from a 9800pro?

Leadtek GeForce 7600 GT 256MB for £109.99?

Or is BFG GeForce 7600 GS OC 512MB even better but cheaper at £89.99?
(i have no idea, iv just seen the GS has double the ram)

Any advice would be great, current system is

9800pro (socket 754)
1gig DDR ram 3200 (no idea what this means!)
AMD 3200 64
350W Sonata black 1 PSU

Has to be this card.....

The GeForce 7600 GS OC 512MB is slightly faster than a 6600GT. The extra ram makes the card cost more for no real performance gain. Its about 1/2 the performance of the 7600GT.

I suppose i could stretch to £120, i get PC stuff without VAT. Are there any other suggestions? Any other big improvements over the 7600GT for not much dosh?

No the 7600gt will wipe the floor with any AGP card apart from the 7800's but they're ~£200.

You can get an AGP 6800gt (Not quite as good as the 7600gt, but still good cards) for about £90 if you look around on ebay and the MM.

Agreed if looking elsewhere & can find them cheaply the X800Pro, X800XT, X850Pro, X800XT, 6800GT, 6800GS (256bit), 6800Ultra, should all be good upgrades. But new from OcUK the 7600GT is a great buy.

What about the BFG GeForce 7800 GS OC 256MB at £164.99?

Is there a huge difference between this and the Leadtek GeForce 7600 GT 256MB at £109.99?

Would it be worth the extra money? Sadly the Gainward BLISS GeForce 7800 GS's are out of price range.

Thanks for your help so far :D

read up reviews, the 7600gs is a lot faster then a 6600gt. let me find those results again.

there you go the reviews have spoken. even a 7600GS is quite a bit faster then the 6600gt.

im going to get 2 of these agp 7600gs cards, one for my xp3200 pc and one for my [email protected]. will give lots of life in network games when i replace the ti4200 and the 6200 in the above machines.

im shocked how the 7600gs handles games at 1280x1024, i though the memory bandwidth would be a limitation on the card but i guess the memory efficiency is far greater then i thought.

my old machines are on crt monitors anyway and it would be great to run games at 1024x768 and 2xAA. looks like the 7600gs is on my list as soon as its in stock.

have seen these agp 7600gs cards sell for £80 inc vat and delivery for the 256mb versions. thats a very good value for money upgrade for old agp systems.
from the looks of the benchmarks the 7600gs performs more like the 6800nu (stock) which i used to have.

Shhhh don't say that, he ordered the 7800gs last night :p
lol! :D I did indeed, it was the only one in price range that was in stock, and i was informed that whilst it wasnt a huge improvement over the GT, it was better, so i went for it.
