hey guys, am currently running a 9800se softmodded to a 9800pro in winxp and its working like a charm. pumping out 1920x1200 no problem and everything looks crystal.

i was thinking of upgrading to vista tonight and after searching *** web i see that there are now softmod drivers. i guess the way vista implements its drivers are different from xp. anyhow i was wondering if anyone knows if i will be able to get the full visual effect of vista with a 128mb ati 9800se...

like aero and this glass effect and possibly the new dreamscene feature?

ah just found out that i cant use the 9800se at high resolutions like 1920x1200 as it wont support aero... guess i will hold off until i can get a better agp card...

bummer!

Lol I just read this then went to the dreamscape thread to tell someone else this card won't work with Aero. Imagine my supprise when it was you :)

it does support aero but not at the resolution that work at. i have a dell 2405fpw and run it at 1920x1200... i think i got my info from the msdn website, will see if i can find the link.

edit: found it

What video cards work best with the pre-Alpha Windows Vista releases?

You should find the NVIDIA GeForce FX 5800 perform flawlessly in all resolutions up to 1280×1024 for the Aero Glass interface; anything higher and you may find traces of sluggishness, especially in 2048×1536.

On the other hand, both ATI Radeon 9600Pro and 9800SE are capable in handling the Aero Glass interface in all modes up to 1600×1200, thanks to ATI's efficient systems driving these cards. However, again, the performance will degrade dramatically in higher resolutions.

Not sure how it compares, but I had a 256Mb 9600XT with a Dell 2407WFP in Vista, and it worked fine.

I had a 9600SE before, and Aero was great - just Media Center was woeful.

I don't know about Dreamscene (on Home Premium) but Aero should be no problem; I just cranked things up to 1920x1200 and it was fine.

Edit: And yeah, I'm using a 9800se. I wonder if they'll be able to softmod the Vista drivers?

ow thats interesting dude, i think i will give it a go now i guess :)...

am sure the trusty se can handly dreamscene as well. its got the power of the gods in it!
