They are generally not recommended. The reason that companies started putting lids on them is because people kept cracking the chips and or knocking bits off them.

Well when you buy them any damage is your responsibility.
They'll be bought by pro builders anyway, into direct core water cookers.
i'm guessing the X3D CPU still spike in temps for menial tasks?Right now, 39 on all cores - not full idle but just has like discord and browsers / youtube running... but it's as close to idle as I ever really get

No issues with the 9800x3d temperatures during gaming, using thermal grizzly kryonaut
Can't say I've noticed any?
Got Metaphor Refantazio and a youtube vid running and it's sitting mid 40s most of the time. The only time I've had it above 60 has been when stress testing tbh. (those min/max values have been with youtube and metaphor running - no idle or stress values reflected there; just general "in-use" temps)
Do you run it stock or an overclock? I will try to get to 5500MHz on all cores if I can.If it helps your decision; my 9800 hasn't broken 65C yet and I didn't delid..... Granted I do have the Lian Li 360mm rad cooling it, but still.
Stock bud; it's paired with a 3080 (until the 5090 releases) - I'm nowhere near CPU bound on this to justify trying to OC xD

I would be terrified to delid these dont think id have the bottle.
I'd be the same if there was no device to actually do so. It is definately much safer/user friendly to use the delid die tool than it was back in the day using a razor blade/hammer and vice
just hearing the word "de-lid" let alone, hammer and razorblade when it comes to a shiny new 9800x3d is giving me the sweats!. used to love pushing the limit back in the days of the ole amd K6 but old age just has me squeamish for even bios tinkering these days.

Im planning on doing it in the next few days, any idea what the thickness of the die is ? which block are you using to cool it, i'd be interested to see your temps.
Im thinking of adding a small piece of soft thermal pad to the area where theres no die, might help with package temps.

runs even cooler with a curve, generally its a cool running chip, not breaking 55c on mine in game and im running a noctua u12a with offset bracket stock clocks with a curve of -20
Excellent temps, hoping the 12c and 16c variants have similar numbers
Idles temps around the same as non-delidded.. only see improvements when full load
Not sure on die thickness. I am using TG Direct Die block and LM.. nothing else
