Hi, got my lovely 9800x3d yesterday with MSI MAG Tomahawk x870
Got it all plugged in and working great.
I used my current NVME drive, so I havent reinstalled windows yet, previously used intel i7 6700k
Everything works great in windows, videos, internet etc, but when ever i load games, when it get past menu screen and into game the pc shuts off power.
It happens on any game i try.
I have cleared bios and only thing changed is memory to expo.
Suggestions?, reinstall a new windows?, disconnect all devices connected ie hard drives and leave the basic minimum required.

Temps wise CPU is idling at 43c
Ram is Corsair Vengeance RGB Grey 32GB 6000MHz
CPU cooler is a Noctya NH-D15 Chromax black

Have you made sure the bios is fully up to date?

If you have a spare SSD\HDD you can try a clean install on here rather than wiping your current drive to find it does not help.

Have you checked all the cables from the PSU to the GPU\Motherboard? sounds like its rebooting whenever you put the GPU under heavy load.

This doesn't sound like an issue with your CPU. What PSU are you running? Also, the GPU - is it cabled up correctly?

If it's cutting the power this sounds like an issue with power delivery.

Check Windows Event Viewer (system log) and checkout warning and critical errors.

I haven't tried the bios yet, the GPU seems to be connected okay, some games run fine, the 2x 8pin connected to card, which is a ATI 6800XT
I clear the event log and try again, also i was suggested to remove intel repid storage technology, so done that too.

You did a fresh install of windows right?

Also are you using your existing PSU?

What wattage is it and how old.

What gpu are you running.

It sounds like a power issue.

I'm using exisiting PSU which is a Corsair CX750
Not sure how old exactly, at least 5 years old though.

GPU is ATI Radeon 6800XT

I haven't done a fresh install of OS, that would be my next thing.

I had a similar issue where my PC would cut power and set all fans to max speed, event viewer showed it was a power issue. Reseating the card and reconnecting the cable from the power supply sorted it.

Do a fresh install for sure, although it still sounds like a PSU issue.

Do this first as it's quick, remove any docp profiles applied to your ram and see if it's stable.

It could be that the ram can't run at the docp speeds. I've seen this issue before.

With the power cables for the GPU, is it 1x cable split in to 2 connecters for the GPU or is it 2 separate power cables from the PSU to each 8 pin connecter to the GPU?

If you have moved from Intel to AMD, you MUST reinstall Windows, otherwise you're going to be running your system with all the old Intel stuff and hundreds of intel security patches etc. Conflicts are bound to happen. Also install the AMD chipset drivers if you haven't already done so.

I'm just reinstalling at moment, so i let you now bit later!

Yeah agree with the general consensus here that you should reinstall windows, let us know if it’s sorted. I think changing anything other than RAM/PSU I would do a fresh install but I have gigabit internet so it doesn’t take long to get back up and running after.

So i tried reinstalling, still does same thing if i load Starfield or 3dmark, it turns pc off after about 30secs.
My next things are to upgrade the bios and or change the graphics card over, just to see if it still happens again.

From my experience I purchase another psu due to age.
