Hi, current spec is:

5800x3d
4080 suprimx

Where’s my money best spent, upgrading cpu, mobo and memory to latest chipset or gpu?

Rig mostly used for gaming - 1440p ultra wide.

Thanks in advance.

I'd wait until some 5080 reviews come out... gut instinct is saying it's not going to be as big an upgrade as some are hoping for from the 4000 series.

I would keep the 4080 until the inevitable 5080 Ti / Super comes out if not until the 6000 cards. I have a feeling the 5080 is going to be a particularly weak upgrade compared to historical 80 series increases.

If you're desperate to upgrade - I would say go for CPU. But your system is nicely balanced as it is - I'd be trying to persuade myself to save my money and wait!

Thanks all for the replies so far.

Strong argument for staying put for now.

Hopefully gain a small bit of performance with the newly enhanced dlss 3.5.

The 5800x3d performs simmlar to a 7600x so a x3d would be the best option and then your talking £600 + for the privilege moving to AM5.

You should be looking at reviews on the amt x3d chips to see if the performance uplift is worth it .

Stick with what he's had unless he's struggling for frames and head to the pub to reconsider your options.

I get the upgrade itch. But I'd really mull it over.

I'd wait a bit, then do it down the line. I'd get a bit more out of what you have.

Another vote for keeping what you have.

Price of the 9800X3D is still to high and the 5080 will probably be only be available through scalpers (unless you are very lucky).
