980ti possible fault

Hi all,

I have a possible fault with one of my 980TI's where it would randomly cause the monitor screen to go black but not loose signal. It would sometimes do it once in 30mins or several times a minute. I have managed to narrow it down to this one card being the cause as my second 980ti and onboard graphics from DisplayPort outputs work fine no faults at all.

It will run games fine though just with random black screens but never crashing and returning to gameplay soon after blacking out. Although sometimes it will take longer to return.

Anyone else had similar issues as I'd like to hear from you before I drain out my rig and test the card on its own in a different pci-e slot.

Whats your monitor model?, My Dell u2715h has a blacking out problem as well, happens randomly with 30-60 mins of playing. Blacks out for a second then game just comes back up. Well known issue on the display loads of complaints on dell forums with youtube videos when they first came out. Don't know if they fixed it in later revisions mine is one of the earlier ones. Gave up trying to fix it, tried all ports possible. Enabling Dp1.2 on the monitor causes a pc freeze when it does it. Card is 980 Normal, pretty sure mine is screen related though, been trying to get a new monitor for ages.

Nevermind, said you don't have issue with other cards :p

Thanks anyway. Initially I started out at the monitor but eliminated that as cause. I then did a bit of gpu swapping and narrowed down to one in particular. Then tonight, I swapped the power cables from the working gpu to the suspect gpu and vice versa and the fault switched to the other gpu so looks like I might have found the real fault right at the supply. Not 100% convinced but its a big coincidence if its not my issue.

Gonna keep testing for one more night but looks promising and I will be relieved as its the cheapest component versus monitor and gpu's plus I dont need to tear down my wc rig to sort it!

Keeping my fingers crossed. :)

My replacement psu is now installed. Problem has completely gone and now my wc rig is super quiet 27-31db all the time even gaming.. The fan in my old evga was ropey amongst many of the other problems it seems to have so gonna try and rma it and keep for another build maybe?

I went with a evga 850P2 which I havn't even had the fans kick in and its staying cool.. Loudest thing in my system is coil whine from mobo and gpu's..

Problem is still there. Although I needed a new powersupply anyway my old one had issues of its own.. I hope now that is not windows f#n 10 creators update as the problem seems to coincide with enabling sli.. I can run my no1 gpu, 2nd gpu or integrated as a single gpu and all is well. If I enable sli, thats when my problems begin. :(

I'm almost tempted to sell both 980ti's and get a single 1080ti. ..

EDIT.. fck it just did it in single gpu mode aswell!

I'm gonna scrap my pc I think. :(
