Hello Overclockers,

My beloved EVGA 980ti recently starting having issues with powering off (black screen) during games and had developed noticeable coil whine from the PSU during high load (When the GPU clock speed went above 1200Mhz). The work-around had been to lower the graphics settings which did the trick. However I decided to replace the PSU to an EVGA 750W, however when powering on with the new PSU the PC ran for about 3-4 mins in game and powered off. When attempting to power on a puff of smoke appeared from near the 12v ATX of the graphics card. This may have been a result of a short when wiring in an old fan controller (lesson learned).

After closer inspection, it looks like the RS3 5MO burst resistor has burnt out with the R68 inductor chip also damaged. I am wondering if this would be possible to be repaired at all? A London based "Nvidia Repair specialist" company claim to be able to repair most issues with damaged Nvidia cards for around £100 or your money back. I am wondering if anyone had any experience with this? The damage can be seen here: https://imgur.com/iCzaR7q

In the meantime I've installed an old 7850 HD as a temporary solution, but would like to look for a replacement to cover me until a new build potentially in Q2 2019. My GPU budget would be around £200 with potential options below:

2nd hand 980ti @ £200-250
2nd hand 1060 6GB @ £160 - £200
1050Ti or 980 OC

This would be running with an i5 4670K / MSI Z97 Gaming 5 / 8GB DDR3 - Mainly playing WoW with the odd CS:GO and Doom.

Any advice on the above greatly appreciated. Thanks

Contact Evga to ask for advice in regard to repair. Support is first rate.
Does no harm to ask and with Evga if they can do something to keep you happy and onboard as a future customer they will.

1050Ti would be a huge step down performance wise to a 980Ti. I would recommend you go down the route of a 2nd hand 1060 or 980Ti for the most bang for buck at around £200.

Heard a guy got a 1070ti when his 980ti broke when he sent it back to EVGA.
Join the EVGA forum mate and any problems they will help you out.
