I've searched for about a week now to try and sort this weird issue out with my evga 980ti sc+, no matter what I try I can't seem to get sound working over the hdmi port when plugged into a tv. It worked when I first tried it then for some reason recently it's stopped.

Running windows 10, latest nvidia drivers

1. i've tried a few tvs, they work fine with other devices - it's definitely the gpu as sound works completely fine from the motherboard or an external usb soundcard
2. i've rolled back, uninstalled and tried about 4 or 5 different nvidia drivers including the one from the end of september which was the one I first put on it
3. hdmi sound doesn't appear in my sound devices anymore (not even disabled), nor device manager
4. in the nvidia control panel I can see my tv in the 'set up digital audio' tab under HDMI, but when I try to configure it windows can't see the device.

any ideas? proper tearing my hair out here i'm not sure if there's something wrong with the card or I need to do a fresh windows install

When you right click in the sound menu do you have both 'show disabled devices' and 'show disconnected devices' checked? You might need to simply enable it. Just guesses here but maybe it'll fix it.
