Hi all,

Recently rebuilt and upgraded my PC after being deprived of it for the majority of the year. Most of all - everything is working as expected but I've ran into a rather odd issue in the past few days due to the increased fan noise from my GPU.

My GPU is fairly powerful - as such it would normally run most games at a solid 60fps on decent settings. I noticed today that while playing the new assassin's creed syndicate - my framerate would suddenly drop significantly from 60 everywhere on very high to struggling to keep 50fps in the same locations. I then noticed after quitting the game the usage on ASUS GPU Tweak will sit at 100% and my fan wouldn't turn off (it goes into silent mode when not under load). Loading up other games during this 100% usage state causes them to suffer from the same framerate issues (Normally run Fallout 4 constantly at 60fps, average goes down to about 55).

The only way I can temporarily fix the issue is to restart the PC but it will repeat the same process after about 10 minutes of gameplay. I'm actually on a backup monitor as my normal ultrawide is out of commission so I'm only gaming at 1680 x 1050 so I should definitely not be getting such a drop in frames

Can somebody help me out here? I've tried installing the latest version of GPU tweak to no success and my drivers are fully updated. I've tried uninstalling GPU Tweak but after 12 minutes of gameplay the issue is still the same. I'm going to try and confirm if it's an issue from Syndicate instead of my own rig.

OS - Windows 10 pro x64
GPU- 980ti Strix
CPU- Intel Skylake 6700k
Cooler- Corsair H100iGTX
MB- ASUS Sabertooth MK1 Z170
RAM - Corsair LPX 8gb
PSU - Corsair 1000w

have you checked task manager when back on the desktop to see if there is anything running in the background which could be causing this?

Hi everybody! Thank you so much for your replies.

I did a full virus scan with avast and malware bytes and removed a good few files they detected. It appears the problem is gone! Hooray!
